What we do
Amal Learning provides free online one-to-one language classes to refugees and displaced people.
How we do it
We match teachers with refugee students, providing training, materials and individualised support to help them
Students are refugees living mostly, but not only, in the Middle East. Many of them have been sponsored by Canadian citizens or by NGOs to live in safer countries.
Our teachers are qualified professionals who understand the backgrounds and needs of refugees. They are located all over the world.
Every person matters
Once selected teachers and students, we strive to get a good match between them. We carefully and individually match them based on criteria ranging from age, gender, language abilities, interests and experiences. For instance, we will pair a teacher with a science background with a pharmaceutical student.
BECOME A TEACHER
The application for language teachers is open!
All of our teachers attend a short training course about the backgrounds, current situations and needs of refugees and how they can best support their linguistic and social needs.
SIGN OUR COMMITMENT
Read and sign our commitment to the best professional standards, what we expect and what you can expect.
Each teacher-student pairs meet on Skype for one-hour weekly sessions. The commitment is for a period of four months.
